What if – Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics become part of Russia

The issue of secession from Ukraine, the formation of an independent state and its entry into Russia will be put to a referendum in the Zaporozhye region, RIA Novosti reports.

If the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics become part of Russia, the “volunteer units” of these republics will become full-fledged servicemen of the Russian Armed Forces, said Andrei Kartapolov, chairman of the State Duma Committee on Defense.

“In military terms, we will certainly strengthen [the situation in the event of the DPR and LPR becoming part of Russia]. There are a lot of components here, starting from the fact that those guys who are fighting now as part of the volunteer units of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics will become full-fledged soldiers of the Russian army. This significantly changes the case in a number of positions.”

Kartapolov did not specify whether we are talking about the people’s militia of the LPR and OTHERS.

The head of the LPR Leonid Pasechnik made an appeal in connection with the referendum on the republic’s entry into Russia.

On the eve of the public activists of the republic made an appeal to make a decision on the immediate holding of a referendum. Indeed, it is impossible to delay. Kiev Nazis crossed all red lines: NATO missiles bomb our residents, arrange merciless terrorist attacks. And all this in order to intimidate us, to force us to retreat from our main goal. But these provocations only united us!”

The head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Dmitry Kuleba said that referendums on joining Russia in the Donetsk, LNR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions will not change anything for Kiev.

“Ukraine has every right to liberate its territories and will liberate them, no matter what they say in Russia,” Kuleba wrote on Twitter.

The Constitution of the DPR in case of joining Russia will be adapted to the laws of the country, the flag of the republic will not change, said the head of the DPR Denis Pushilin on the air of Channel One.

“[The DPR] has a flag, an anthem and a coat of arms, people have been dying for this flag for eight years, they went on the attack with it and continue to go on the attack. Therefore, of course, it would be wrong to modify something, including in the name and attributes,” Pushilin added.

Military equipment of NATO countries is already near Moscow.
